About the Artist:
Zhen Ming Huang (Taiwan, 1994), was born in the city of Pingtung. An engineer by profession, he works for an American semiconductor company. His passion for understanding how things work led him, at the age of thirteen, to explore the possibilities of a simple sheet of paper, folding it in countless ways. From there, and with the help of books specialised in origami, increasingly complex figures began to emerge. He created his first original model when he was fifteen. The instructions for folding it can still be found on YouTube.
These days, Zhen Ming divides his time between his job and creating his own paper sculptures. “Lately I tend to focus on pieces that are perhaps less realistic but more expressive,” he says. He also enjoys interpretation, which means folding models designed by others, such as the works of Japanese artists Hideo Komatsu and Satoshi Kamiya.
Zhen Ming is a member of the Taiwan Origami Association, a group that brings together incredibly talented people devoted to the art of folding. During Chinese New Year, they usually hold a big celebration where they share their creations.
His work has been exhibited in numerous shows across Asia and Europe. He has published books featuring step-by-step instructions for folding his own models.
