Notes

The artist talks about himself: “Xiao is my first name. I work as a paperart designer in a company. I'm not the company owner but I was there when it built. And I have been running my origami video channels (Youtube, Bilibili, Chinese tiktok and so on) since last year.” “I tried all kinds of works related to paper. Papercraft, paper cut, paper carve or sometimes mix them together. This makes me keep in touch with all kinds of art forms. From time to time, they give me inspirations.” “I want to show people the unique style and beauty of origami. In my opinion, origami is not simply imitating the shape of other art forms. I tend to keep my works more ‘origami’ and enhance the texture of paper. Also the enjoyable folding experience is what I have been seeking for. That's why I always practice folding my models many times and find the best folding sequences for them.” “I expect people enjoy watching or folding my models, recognize they are origami from paper and approve the feature of origami. I feel relax and pleasure while doing origami. Mostly the emotion is my love to paper. I like different kind of papers' textures, touch, colours. Sometimes I use my works to express emotions. For example, the Lazy panda has another name called ‘I don't want to get up and work.’” “And sometimes I create models inspired from game/anime/movie characters because I like their stories/personalities.” (From a questionnaire sent to Chen Xiao by email in 2023)
