About the artist:
Jun Maekawa (b. 1958) is a Japanese software engineer, mathematician, and origami artist renowned for introducing crease pattern design to a wider audience through his influential 1985 book Viva Origami. He is also credited with Maekawa’s theorem, a fundamental principle in the mathematics of flat-foldable origami. A longtime contributor to the Japanese Origami Academic Society (JOAS), he has served both as committee chief and as a regular writer on origami history and theory. In addition to his artistic and academic pursuits, Maekawa is president of a software company and a member of the Astronomical Society of Japan.
