The sculpture Mother and Child features two intricately folded pieces of paper, arranged in a sequence of curves and geometric shapes. In the artist's words: "Constraining pleats all in one direction and then another by folding over."
The textured layers resemble interconnected, undulating forms, evoking the image of a flowing, segmented shell. Each section transitions seamlessly into the next, symbolizing the bond between mother and child. This model was donated by Christine Edison, but before that it was part of the traveling exhibition "Folding Paper: The Infinite Possibilities of Origami". Co-curated by Meher McArthur and Robert J. Lang, it was organized by International Arts & Artists and toured many art centers in the USA from 2012 to 2016. In 2016, Meher McArthur helped arrange the donation and the transferring of the work from the IA&A facilities to the Museo del Origami in ColoniaMade/Created

About the artist:
Christine Edison (b. 1975, American) is a high school math teacher and origami artist based in Chicago. She began folding paper seriously in 2003 and, since 2006, has focused on tessellations, pleating and corrugations. Her work spans from intricate tessellations to bold and expressive sculptural pieces.
