Precision brass enclosure. Lever actuated counter. 5 place counter to 99999. Initially developed for automated weighin machine. but later offered for use in any mechanical operation Artifact label reads: Mechanical Counter Pratt & Whitney Co., Hartford, CT Pat. d Sept. 24, 1895 Pratt & Whitney Co. was founded in 1860 in Hartford, CT by Francis Pratt and Amos Whitney. The two men founded the company while working at Phoenix Iron Works, where they would design and develop their own machinery in a small rented room. When they finally left Phoenix Iron Works in 1865, they turned their small rented room endeavors into their own company that developed and built lathes, drills, planners, cutting machines, and other industrial machines, and continues to do so today. This counter was initially developed as part of an automatic weighing machine but later featured in other mechanical operations.
