Cultural/Historical Context

Label

From Sky King (great grandson of inventor): The Union Construction Company was started by my great grandfather Walter W. Johnson and a gold dredging and shipbuilding concern, whose plant was located in what is now the Outer Harbor of the Port of Oakland, next to the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza but was then the Key System mole. When new ship orders started declining after WWI, he attempted to keep is plant workers employed by shifting to the manufacturing of radios, trucks, converting to a cannery, etc. This radio is one of the few surviving copies we have located.
