Rickshaw Taxi Meter The Super Meter Mfg. Co., Maharashtra, India Circa 1950s This fare meter uses an internal hand would spring. When the “For Hire” sign is rotated down, the display changes from For Hire to the current cost of the trip (based on the time elapsed). The fare is displayed in Rupees. In third world countries, the scarcity of batteries makes this design still applicable. The Super Meter company is still in business building and selling this model (as well as more modern) fare meters.
