Vacuum Coffee Maker
The Silex Co., Hartford, CT
1937
Also known as a siphon coffee maker, this brews coffee by having the heated water vapor from the lower chamber pushing up into the upper chamber. The hot water vapor mixes with the coffee grounds and then as it cools slightly, the hot coffee liquid drips back down into the lower serving pot. This process was invented (using flame) 100 years before this electrically heated one was manufactured.
