Description

Half of an ivory diptych ( 4.16 cm x .9 cm x 14.3 cm) depicting the archangel Michael standing at the top of a flight stairs holding an orb in his right hand and staff with his left. On either side, Corinthian columns support a decorated archway within which is a wreath encircling a cross on an globe. Above the arch and decorated with swags, rosettes, and scrolls, is a framed inscription declaring (in Greek) 'Receive this man although you know (his) sin.'
