StatueContext
Pharaoh Psammeticus II was a king of the twenty-sixth Dynasty of Egypt--the last native Dynasty to rule Egypt prior to the Persian conquest. Under the command of Pharaoh Psammeticus II the Egyptians were able to throw the Kushites out of their land and re-conquer Nubia.
This statue depicts the classic Egyptian stance with left foot forward and hands clenched by the sides. On the back of the statue is inscribed the name of the Pharaoh in hieroglyphs. The piece is carved from a fine, green schist with smooth polished surfaces. The original was restored at the beginning of the 19th c. by the sculptor Laboureur.Made/Created
