Name/Title

She Said This

Description

The artist described the painting “She Said This” as a collaboration with a girl he met while living in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. The words on the canvass relate a tragic, personal tale with a neon bluntness that moves and shocks. Burris explains, “The voices that I hear when I work with people who are disabled or who are outside the mainstream are really remarkably the same. The first thing they say is ‘Listen to me.’ People who are marginalized really have a need to be listened to. And a lot of these people have a complete lack of power. The great thing about art is that during that time when you’ve got the material in front of you, you are completely in control.”
