This sculpture shows Rudy Autio's interest in four significant areas: the decorative, the sculptural, the vessel form and the incorporation of figurative design into his work. His figures possess a Matisse-like quality in design. While Rudy Autio's best known work is figurative ceramic vessels, he worked in a variety of materials and other media. In addition to commissions in ceramic reliefe and tile murals, he worked in bronze, concrete, glass, fabricated metal sculpture and design of colorful Rya tapestries. Most of these were commissioned for buildings in the Northwest and one is in Finland.
