"the Ten Ox Herding Pictures", is an ancient Japanese Buddhist text/poem that describes the awakening process and the process of attaining consciousness. Throuch a series of circular ink and watercolor paintings, Segal relies on the originals painting in Japan during the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The lesson is divided into ten stanzas and illustrated per stanza. One may read translations of the poem and see the orginal works in the metropolitan Musuem of Art in New York where Segal lived. The lessons are widely taught and known as Buddhist parables to raising one's consciousness.Artwork Details
