This is one of a pair of seascapes of similar size, framing and appearance. Research points to these may be views from his home on Fire Island where he vacationed from many years. Likely done from life en Plein air, Segal was focused on color and pushing a color beyond it's real effect in order to capture an emotion much like the Post Impressionists/ Fauves did in France in the late 19th c. One can see the clear sunlight traveling over the dune in a burst from a stormy sky.Collection
