Yvonne's mother, Nancy Lidgerwood, nee Way, grew up up living with Chinese grandparents, Reverend John Tong Way and his wife Mary whom she loved and felt that he was never recognised properly for all the good deeds he did. Before she died, Yvonne promised her she would write and try to publish the Tong Way family story. This book is dedicated to Yvonne's mother and Yvonne's grandfather Hedley David Way.
