Context

This album contains a selection of wall paintings from 13 tombs in Honan, Shansi, Hopei, Kansu and Shensi provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region since the founding of new China. Most of them are new finds made since the beginning of the Cultural Revolution. They range in date from the late Western Han Dynasty of the first century B.C. to the Tang Dynasty in the eighth century.
