The Young Chinese League was established in 1932 as a non-political organisation aimed to bring people of Chinese descent together to meet and share social, cultural and sporting activities. They ran a debutante ball from their establishment through to the 1980's. Alma Quon's band played at these balls (and many other Chinese community functions). They also played regularly for the RSL, bowling and golf clubs, Masonic Lodges all over Melbourne. Alma's band was an all women's band (a fashion at the time it was established) and contained both Chinese and non-Chinese Australians (including I believe Jewish Australians). Members of the band in the 1930s included : Dawn Smith, Molly Worrall, Gladys Torrens, Alma Quon, Valma Frecker, Moya Brown, Lotte Rehn, Gay Funston and Lorna Quon. They played a mix of Western and modified Chinese-style music. The donor does not know when Rona was a member of the band but believes that it was in the late 1950s to early 1960s. At some stage she played double bass for the band.Acquisition
