Scope and Content

This is a copy of a number of documents. The first document is a certified copy of a marriage certificate between Robert Wainwright and Eliza Ann Child from Augusta, Maine dated 08/31/1843. Next is a four page deposition from Eliza Wainwright concerning her husband and his death dated 03/30/1886. She relates how her husband was in good health until about 1851/52 when he was at Detroit Arsenal. He contracted Malaria and his health continued to decline when he was ordered to New Mexico in 1860/61. On the march to New Mexico he was taken ill with Dysentery and "congestion of the brain". The wagon train waited two days for him to get better. He again became sick and delirious while the wagon train waited for him to get better. He was sick off and on with "rushes of blood to the head" . He was sick with "great cerebral excitement" while in New Mexico. While stationed at New York Arsenal in 1861/62 he had continual headaches and rushes of blood to the head. This continued at Watertown Arsenal, Mass. At Benicia Arsenal his letters showed great depression and anxiety.
