Scope and Content

Small child's book 2-1/4" x 2-1/2" 42 pages "The Little Engine That Could" is on the blue cover with a drawing of a train; Other writings included: "Try Again", a poem by William E. Hickson, "A Christmas Song at Sea" by Alfred Noyes, "Wee Robin's Song" - A Scotch Folk Tale, and "Snow" a poem by Mary Mapes Dodge. The stories for this book and others were gathered by Olive Beaupre Miller for The BookHouse for Children (publishing company), 360 North Michigan Ave., Chicago. There were many volumes, large and small, produced by Bookhouse and this paragraph as at the back of the book; "My Bookhouse is not sold in stores. It is sold only by the Bookhouse Ladies, who call upon mothers in their homes to explain about these wonderful books. A small monthly payment (only 10 cents a day) will bring these books to your home so you can enjoy them every day of the year." It is "bound" with thread and could be from the 1920's or 30's.
