Description

A storage box that was originally part of a World War I tank. It was removed when a tank was being dismantled in the tank shop at Benicia Arsenal in the early 1940's. There are three hinges on the front, which folds down to reveal a box on its inside. The lid on that box lifts up to reveal an undivided inside but there are various-sized holes on the front side. In the main area there are two storage boxes. The upper box is divided into four sections, one of which has a hinged lid. A small 4 section wooden drawer is to the lower left. There is a pull-up handle on each end to lift the box out. The lower box is undivided and can not be removed. The outer lid lifts up and is held in place by chain as is the front fold-down section. The lid has a hasp-type lock and chain with an S hook to keep it closed. There are three hinges at the back. The box has been repainted as it was used by a local man as a tool box for about 50 years.
