Book of pencil sketches done by William Rich Hutton (1826-1901) in California from 1847 - 1852. One of the drawings (Benicia City) is by William Hutton's brother James D. Hutton. William Hutton was an engineer who came west in 11/1846 with the volunteer forces for the occupation of California. He acted as assistant paymaster, did work as a surveyor and worked at a Quicksilver mine. During his travels he made sketches of many places associated with the Gold Rush in California.
