Scope and Content

An envelope and letter commemorating the launched of PG 96, the Benicia. Envelope (2011.007.0001) has picture and date. Card tells the history of the first vessel called the Benicia, which took part in the Korean campaign of 1871. The new Benicia, it says, "is one of a modern class of patrol gunboats whose mission is search and pursuit. The ship is named in honor of Benicia, California, an industrial and residential community located on Carquinez Straits, north of San Francisco."
