Card sent to Beverly Phelan from Thomas Benet The Photograph on the front is of Brig. Gen. J.V. Benet Note inside: "August 2 Dear Beverly, I thought you might enjoy this picture of Brig. Gen. J. V. Benet, my great-grandfather, and the father of James W. Benet, the C.O. at Benicia. He was a professor at West Point (ethics), helped Lincoln develop riflery during the Civil War, wrote the definitive work on Courts Martial, and translated the memoirs of one of Napoleon's generals.
