Scope and Content

This record consists of correspondance between Harry Wassmann at the Benicia Museum and Dorothy Sale in Seattle. They are talking about her family history and more specifically the house they lived in in Benicia. The house is the residence of J.W. Jones. There is an illustration of this residence in the 1885 Solano County atlas. The house still exists in Benicia at 184 West "H" street. The lot where the house stands originally was a house built for Robert Semple by Henry Couch in 1847. It was later sold to Chauncy E Wetmore in April 1849. It later was owned by Samuel Gray, Wetmore's brother-in-law. In the 1870's in belonged to the Jones family. The correspondance also talks about Howard Davis and his career. Howard Davis is the son of Frederick John Davis (1857-1919) and Daisy Jones (1863-1941). Daisy is the daughter of John W Jones (1821-1896) and Harriet Wetmore (1824-1901). It was John and Harriet that lived in the Jones Residence.
