The upper section has missing areas but we can see an indications that Thomas Ewing King's brother, Edmund King, was married to Julia Dent Grant, which would make Thomas the brother-in-law of President Grant's grand-daughter. It seems that Thomas lived with his brother, Edmund, in La Jolla California for a period of time. There is also a listing of some marriages and the children of the unions.
The lower section reads as follows:
"Fannie Chaffee, a student at the Bishop's School, La Jolla, sat by her uncle Ewing's side at the top of the cliffs just north of the Scripps Pier, when she was 16 years old, when he quickly sketched this scene, - her favorite - with pastels."
Thomas Ewing King was born in Toledo Ohio in 1876 and died in La Jolla California in 1933 at age 57. His profession was as an architectural delineator.Collection
