Beautiful drawing on a page in autograph album 2010.027.0014 done by hand in what looks to be ink. Includes leaves, a heart, a shield, and poetry, from J.Y to K.H. Dated September 1886 at Benicia Arsenal.
At the bottom by the shield it says "This is my wish. John Yeager. The 1880 census for Benicia lists a Hyde family as Martin (64) wife Elizabeth (47) and children William (19), Catherine (18), Margaret (14) and John (10), and Nellie(8). This is probably the Katie Hyde named in the drawing. The only soldier in the 1880 census named John Y... is John Yager (35). This could be the artist. He is on a voters registration for 1886 in Solano age 39 and a naturalized citizen.Collection
