First Day Cover Envelope - Historic Gold Rush Centennial 1849-1949. Size 4 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. Postmarked August 5, 1948 in Columbia, California (former mining camp). Upper left has printed Pony Express "stamps" with the caption "Wells Fargo and the Pony Express played an important part in building up the old west and carrying mail and needed supplies to the mines." Lower left has map of Columbia area and image of Columbia in 1860s.
