The envelope containing the letter to Matt Clarken from G. G. Halliday County Clerk of Solano County. The letter is to inform Mr. Clarken that his bond for as Notary Public had been received but couldn't be approved because the Judge Buckles was attending a G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) encampment in Salinas, CA. Matthew Clarken was born in South Carolina 01/1843 and died in Benicia in 1912. He was a notary public and on the rolls of the State Roster at least in 1899. He married Edith Alice Barry (1874) and they had four children (Alice 1884, Miriam 1886, George 1888, and Edith 1891). His brother, R.M. Clarken was a judge in Sacramento, CA. Grant George Halliday was born in 1865 in California and died in Vallejo 03/17/1940. He married Jean Brownlie in 1899. They had a child Jessie Halliday born in 1899. Mr Halliday was the Solano County Clerk for many years. Judge Abraham Jay Buckles was born in Indianna in 1868. He was married to Louiosa B _____. He died on 01/09/1915 in Fairfield, CA. When he was young he served in the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War from 06/1861 to his discharge 05/15/1865. During that time he was wounded four separate times and each time he returned to rejoin his unit. The last wound cost him his right leg. He was later awarded the medal of honor. He was a member of the: Gen. Sol Meredith Post No. 176 G.A.R. at Fairfield
