Portable Writing Desk - a wooden box with a hinged lid which is cut on an angle so that when the lid is fully opened, the writing surface is flat; key lock (no key is with it); purple felt (faded and soiled) covers the center area of the writing surface; there is a 6" x 12" storage area under half of the writing surface; there are also four smaller storage areas: 2" x 2" empty; 2" x 2" with glass ink bottle (screw-top is missing); 2" x 6" containing a wooden piece 5-3/4" x 1-3/4" x 3/16" which may have been part of a blotting system or a weight to hold paper in place; 2" x 2" holding a pen wiper of many round pieces of felt sewn together in the center.

There is a painted design on top of flowers around a diamond shaped center where there is a snow covered mountain scene behind a lake with trees to the left; main color of the box is a stippled brown.Collection
