This is a reprint of an early paper written at the time when they were determining where the main Northern California Port of Entry should be located. The book details the reasons why that should be in Benicia rather than San Francisco or some other port city in the Bay area. This book summarizes the papers and petitions that had been submitted to the U.S. Committee on Commerce about Benicia and it's benefits as a port city. The papers being summarized were written around August of 1850.
