This is a "FID", a tapered wooden pin used in opening the strands of a rope. A fid is used to hold open knots and holes in canvas, and to separate the "layers" (or strands) of synthetic or natural rope.
This fid is 8 1/8 inches long, has a string through a hole at the top, and has three circular grooves which wave been carved.Collection
