This flag was stored in a wooden box in the attic of the Benicia City Council for many years. The box was inscribed:
Presented to City of Benicia by Benicia Centennial Committee for the preservation of centennial flags.
1. The National Ensign that was flown over the National Capitol bldg. .. 19 of May 1947
2. Replica of the National Ensign when Benicia was founded 19 of May 1847
In 2005 the Benicia Historical Museum was made aware of it's existence and history. This "flag" has stripes of red, white, blue, white, red. It may have been used as bunting not an ensign. It has considerable signs of wear. It is 56" x 89".Collection
