This is a letter from Samuel Gray to his son Theo who is traveling on the East Coast. The letter is dated 06/27/1876. This lines up with cousin, Lewis whose birthday is mentioned, born on 06/17/1841. The June. The "Exhibition" in Philadelphia mentioned is probably the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition that started 05/16/1876 and ran to November of 1876. The marriage of George Alfred Hastings to Miss (Mary Ann) Wallace is recorded as 06/20/1876. (This doesn't match the Friday, 06/23rd date given by Samuel but is very close and does support the year as 1876.)
The rest of the letter talks of local news and family. He does mention a new vice principal at St. Mary's (Mrs. Ormsby) and other people who have been traveling.
