Description

This is a letter dated 08/23/1846 from Samuel Cotton Gray to his sister Mary Joanna Gray Blanding regarding a trip that Samuel took. It is more like a diary of the trip in letter form. The trip took place from Baltimore, MD / Philadelphia / the Catskills / Troy, NY / Stillwater / Saratoga Springs / Utica, NY / Clinton / Springfield, MA / Boston / Providence / and back to Baltimore. It lasted about 3 and1/2 weeks. Much of the time was spent visiting friends and relatives of Samuel's. One interesting story is of a woman Samuel met on the train who turns out to be Lucy Wetmore, his future wife.
