2024.10.1.220Description
This is a letter dated June 21st, 1848 (assumed), from Samuel Gray in Baltimore to C. E. Wetmore in San Francisco, CA.
The letter talks of recent political events such as the June Days Uprising (06/22 - 26/1848), the Revolution of February (02/1848), the Treaty with Mexico and the U.S. (03/10/1848). Samuel mentions his wife Lucy who he married 12/19/1847 and the fact that the person receiving the letter will soon be in his "destined haven". All of this points to the letter being from July of 1848 and being written to Samuel's brother-in-law Chauncey Wetmore.
He then talks of US politics and passes on local news regarding friends and neighbors.
