This is a letter from Samuel C Gray to his brother-in-law, Chauncey Wetmore in San Francisco dated 09/23/1848. Mr. Wetmore had arrived in S.F. on 08/27/1848. Mr. Gray mentions news of a gold mine near Sacramento. He then speculates on the effect this will have on business and the prospects for making profits. The marriage of Lucy S Buck (1821 - 1872) to Mr. Pratt (Jabez D. Pratt from Baltimore is mentioned in the letter. Lucy is the daughter of Brazillai D Buck and Mary Mix Buck. One of her siblings is Mary Mix Buck (1816 - 1894) who is the wife of C.E. Wetmore the addressee of this letter.
