This is a letter dated 02/07/1849 from Samuel Gray's sister Mary Joanna to her sister-in-law Lucy Gray regarding family matters. The letter mainly talks of the coming journey to California. Mary's uncle hopes that they go via "'round the horn' as he thinks it is safer than across the Isthmus. (Note: they do go across the Isthmus.) Mary mentions seven men from Columbus that have left for California and all the talk concerning people that have left.
