This is a letter dated 04/21/1849 from Samuel Gray's sister Mary Joanna Gray (1820 - 1907) regarding family matters. She is in Columbus, GA teaching school and living with her sister Maria (1810 - 1884) and husband Lewis Wells (1817 - 1879). She mentions a suitor she turned down, James Henry Tichnor, that the church almost burned in a recent fire, and that she received a letter from Edward Gray (probably her brother Edward Powers Gray 1822 - 1902) and that he was considering going to Boston to have an operation on his eye.
