This is a letter to Samuel Gray in S.F., from Chauncey Wetmore in Benicia dated 09/23/1849. It talks about various business matters related to their partnership. Wetmore says he does not want to deal in liquor as it is a business he detests. They also discuss ordering an iron warehouse to be placed on their lot in Benicia on "B" street.
NOTE: C.E. Wetmore purchased about 20 lots in May and June 1849 from Phelps but none of the ones we know about are on B street.
In 1891 Samuel Gray's estate papers show he owned several lots on B street. He owned lot 15 and part of lot 10 in block 198. They are water lots but lot 15 could have been on the wharf in 1849. He also owned two lots in East Benicia - lot 1 and part of lot 3 of block 5. Lot 1 is a water lot. One of these may have been where their original store was located.Collection
