Description

This is a letter to Samuel C Gray from his uncle on his Mother's side, Edward Powers. The letter is written while he is in New York, NY. The letter touches on many topics. Mr. Powers mentions the issue of slavery and the fact that Georgia is less radical than South Carolina about the question of the Western States entering the Union as free or slave. He voices disdain for Martin Vanburen and William Seward. He mentions Mary J Gray Davis's husband and seems to not think very highly of the man. He does seem pleased with Mr. Wells who is married to Affa Gray, Samuel's other sister. He also talks about going West to see a cousin who he wants to help get a section of land.
