This is a letter from Lucy Wetmore Gray on the East Coast to her husband Samuel C Gray in Benicia dated 09/26/1852. She starts by telling how much she misses Samuel over these last six months. She also wishes that Samuel had accepted Christ as his savior.
She talks of her travels and describes visiting Mrs. Crocker in New Bedford, Mass. who she is meeting for the first time. (note: This is probably the wife of Edward Crocker who was a business partner of Samuel's in Benicia.) She mentions meeting several people including Capt. Clark whom she knew in Benicia.
Lucy also mentions meeting a free Mulatto from Baltimore who she convinces to come to California to work for her. She is a widow named Mrs. Elizabeth Mc Gronkey.
