Description

This is a letter from Lucy Wetmore Gray on the East Coast to her husband Samuel C Gray in Benicia dated 09/26/1852. She starts by remembering that he proposed exactly 6 years ago that day and how happy they were. She then says that she may be at fault for their relationship problems by her "moaning over my lot". She is talking about her problems getting used to married life, housework and being in California away from family and friends. She goes on to complain about the fleas in California, his business being "dull" and maybe not providing the fortune she had originally expected, and she is afraid for the education California provides for Eddie in terms of the class of people he will have to deal with there. The rest of the letter tells of her visits with family and her son Eddie and his changes. She also mentions Samuels mother and sister.
