2025.12.1.66Description
This is a letter from Lucy Wetmore Gray on the East Coast to her husband Samuel C Gray in Benicia dated 10/10/1852. Lucy describes all the relatives she has visited and the fact that they went to "Cattle Show" day in Middletown and how busy it was. She then tells Samuel about Eddie and an incident of trying to make him pick up an apple core. He is very obstinate and she must "slap" him and put him in a dark closet before he eventually does what he is told. She says she does not agree with Rev. Woodbridge that children under 2 must be completely subjugated.
She also says that she is reading a defense of the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin". (Not sure if this is a pro or anti-slavery viewpoint.)
