This is a note written by Samuel C Gray listing the monies he has received from his Uncle Edward Powers estate. Uncle Powers is his mother's brother. He lived in Columbus, Georgia but was born in Boston in 1793. He died in 1855 a very wealthy man. He didn't marry or have any children and in his will he stipulated that if one or both of his nephews (Edward Powers Allen and Edward Powers Peabody) would change their last name to Powers by the time they were 21, he would leave them $50,000 each. The rest of the family including Samuel C Gray each received a tenth share of what remained after some specific bequests.Collection
