Gray Letters 1856Entry/Object ID
2024.10.1.219Description
This is a partial letter probably to Samuel Gray as it mentions a "Samuel" in the text. It is probably from his sister Mary Joanna Gray Davis (1820 - 1907) in Columbus, GA. Her husband recently died and she is dealing with his estate and putting the house in her name. Mary was married to Ezekiel C Davis (1823 - 1856).
At one point she talks of replacing a servant named Nancy (from other letters we know that Nancy was a slave that she bought with the help of her Uncle Edward) who she thinks must go since she has no Master. This could refer to the passing of her husband.Collection
