This is a letter dated 12/30/1856 from Mrs. Mary Gray Morton to her brother Mr. Samuel C. Gray regarding her situation and reflecting on the past year. She says she has seen "sickness, death, heartaches, disolution, and weariness of spirit". She then talks about possibly renting out her house and boarding. This may indicate that her husband died during this year.
At the end she asks Samuel to not tell her sister Maria any of this as she is not very sympathetic.
