2024.10.1.74Description
This is a letter from Edward Crocker in Benicia to Samuel C Gray traveling and dated 05/19/1859. He tells of his trip to S.F. to buy goods for their Benicia store (spent $1,100). He mentions that a package meant for the "What Cheer House" in S.F had to be tracked down. He also comments on the very good sales at the store.
A Mr. Marshall's loan is mentioned and his failure to make his payment. There is also a mention of his cattle business and changing brands on some cattle. (The Museum has an unregistered brand for a "? P Marshall" in record 1986.010.0220. Could be Lindsay P. Marshall and maybe the person referenced in this letter.)
We learn that S.D. Sanborn sold his tin shop to Hatch & Co. and Mr. Sanborn's failure to make his payment when promised. Mr. Crocker is of the opinion that Mr. Sanborn is "too lazy a man to trust too far".Collection
