2024.10.1.339Description
This is a letter dated 06/29/1859 from Mrs. Mary Gray Morton to her brother Mr. Samuel C. Gray regarding mainly family matters. She talks of missing her husband because he is gone on the Chattahoochee River so much. (George Morton is shown in the 1880 US Census as a "steam boatman". 1818 - 1910). She gives a little bit of genealogical information about George in talking about the names of his sister's children.
Mary says how pleased they would be if Samuel could visit them. She warns that the steamers lay up in April because of the low water in the river. She thinks it would be great if he could come down from Apalachicola on the Oswichee with her husband.
She also mentions that she is seeing to the education for Augusta a 12 year old girl. (Not sure of the relationship.)
