2024.10.1.84Description
This is a letter from Samuel C Gray in Middletown, Connecticut dated 07/30/1859 to Edward Crocker in Benicia. He touches on a number of topics. One topic is the change in the mail contract to D.H. Johnson and the role Pacific Mail and Steamship Co. and the Panama R.R. companies will play in the future mail delivery. He mentions the Artillery leaving the Arsenal and the Infantry taking their place which he sees as a positive change. He is not surprised over the embezzlement by the City Marshall, Luke Bond, and thinks it wouldn't have happened if he had been Mayor of Benicia. He then finishes with business discussion and family and travel updates.Collection
