2024.10.1.88Description
This is a letter from Edward Crocker in Benicia to Mrs. Lucy Gray traveling, dated 10/03/1859. Mr. Crocker writes how dull Benicia has been but then remembers to mention that the Randolph and Butler families have each had a newborn in the last month and rumor has it that the Fergusson family is expecting soon.
(note: Mr. Crocker has in parenthesis, "E Walsh". This probably refers to Eleanor Walsh who in the 1870 census shows a boy, A.W. Fergusson age 10, living with her and her husband John. In the 1880 census a boy named Arthur Fergusson is living with John and shown as his grandson.) Mr. Crocker mentions that John Walsh is in the East testifying at the trial of Maj. Cross.
Mr. Crocker mentions the return of Rev. Woodbridge's son, Sylvester Woodbridge Jr., from his schooling in the East. He notes several mutual friends and/or relations that have been in the store. He alludes to a possible romantic connection between Dr. Peabody and Miss Atkins.Collection
